First Pattern!!!

Ok, so I'm working on an afghan that my grandmother thought I was skilled enough to make 3 years ago. It's been sitting for abt. 1 yr in my WIP bin. I thought, since she's made a few, and they are just fantastic that I would share the pattern with you.


Tree of Life Afghan
Materials:
  • 12(15) skeins Red Heart Super Saver
  • size 17 circular needles
  • Tapestry needle
(note: 12 is for 2 strand, 15 is for 3 strand)

CO 139 sts with preferred method.
K 9 rows.
Increase row: K9, *kfb, k23 repeat from * until last 10 sts, kfb, K9.
Next row: K6,*pm, work row 1 of cable, pm, work row 1 of tree of life pattern, repeat from * 4 more times, pm, work row 1 of cable, pm, K6.
Continue to work tree of life and cable pattern until tree of life has been worked 7 times ending with row 25 of tree of life and row 1 of cable (to follow).

Cable pattern:
Rows 1, 3, and 5: (WS) K1, P6, K1
Row 4: (RS) P1, sl next 3 onto dpn, K3, K3 off of dpn, P1
Rows 2 and 6: P1, K6, P1

Tree of life pattern:
  1. (WS) Purl 17
  2. (RS) Knit 17
  3. Purl 17
  4. K8, P1, K8
  5. P7, K1, P1, K1, P7
  6. K6, P1, K3, P1, K6
  7. P5, K1, P2, K1, P2, K1, P5
  8. K4, P1, K2, P1, K1, P1, K2, P1, K4
  9. P3, K1, P2, K1, P3, K1, P2, K1, P3
  10. K2, (P1, K2) 5 times
  11. P4, K1, P2, K1, P1, K1, P2, K1, P4
  12. K3, P1, K2, P1, K3 , P1, K2, P1, K3
